Great article, Jodi. Here’s some history from the University of Illinois—looks like the U Of I beat Cal this time. https://iadp.ahs.illinois.edu/history/

Oooh, thanks for sharing that. I knew, at least I found in my research, that the first known curb-cut in the U.S. was in Kalamazoo, Michigan (https://www.carleton.edu/accessibility-resources/newsletter/curb-cuts-a-brief-history/). But yes, Illinois was definitely ahead of the curve (or curb, ha, ha). The one in Berkeley caught lots of media attention though and is considered the impetus for it being adopted elsewhere. Also, northern California was a hotbed of disability activism at the time. It's where Judy Heumann, Ed Roberts and others staged the federal building sit-in for disability rights and was the birthplace of the Centers for Independent Living (or CIL) of which I am a board member (for my local one). All that to say, yes, there is a lot of cool history out there. Thanks for sharing that. May be fodder for a future newsleter. Hugs!

Aw, thanks, Marci. It was fun to learn about it all. (Also, I know I owe you an email -- it's on the list ...).
